Fostering Shared Responsibility
While Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) are critical indicators of user experience, they don't tell the whole story. True performance optimization requires looking beyond these numbers and understanding the qualitative aspects of user interaction.
"When performance becomes a shared metric of success, everyone from engineering to marketing starts pulling in the same direction."
Practical Steps
Here are a few things to consider:
- Responsiveness to Interactions: How quickly does the UI respond to clicks, taps, and scrolls after the initial load?
- Animation Smoothness: Are animations and transitions fluid, or do they jank and stutter?
- Resource Loading Strategy: Are you prioritizing critical assets and deferring non-essential ones effectively?
